Tumors and diseases of the circulatory system, the main causes of death in Lanzarote

More than 500 people died in 2022 due to this type of pathology, that is, about six out of ten deaths on the island

The main causes of death in Lanzarote are linked to tumors or diseases of the circulatory system. This is reflected by the Lanzarote Data Center based on figures from the National Institute of Statistics and the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics. 

Specifically, tumors or neoplasms, that is, the accelerated growth of cells, ended the lives of 250 people on the island throughout 2022. Meanwhile, 258 patients died from a disease of the circulatory system, such as heart disease, strokes or thrombosis, etc. Nearly six out of ten deaths on the island have been related to these causes.

Far from these data, 8% of the population died from diseases of the respiratory system, while 5% died from problems of the digestive system and the other 5% from infectious and parasitic pathologies and 4% from external causes.

Thus, 25 people died from diseases of the nervous system and another 26 from endocrine, nutritional and metabolic pathologies. With less significant data, there are deaths from symptoms, signs and abnormal findings, for which two people died that year. While four of them did so due to congenital malformations, deformities and chromosomal abnormalities; another four due to arthropathies; four due to diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue,

2022, record of deaths from mental disorders

According to data from ISTAC, in 2022 a record of deaths related to mental and behavioral disorders was reached. In total, 66 people out of the 867 who died that year lost their lives due to mental health problems.
