The taxi drivers of La Graciosa "with the noose around their necks" due to the excess of jeeps: "We are unmotivated to come to work"

They ask for "respect for those of us who started" and to stop "taking away our clients"

Gracioseros will be able to pay their local taxes in person on September 4

The overload of taxis in La Graciosa continues. A "serious and regrettable" situation that drivers want to change immediately because "we are unmotivated to come to work" and want to "have a decent and quiet job", confesses one of them.

They see themselves "with a noose around their necks" because of all those who operate "without any license" and "at high speeds". Everything is "very crazy", he acknowledges. Even many times, "cyclists and walkers gather on the same road", something dangerous, "there hasn't been an accident because God is great", says the driver.

They demand "respect for the first ones who started", and to stop "taking away the clients we have reserved" who "arrive on the island and get off the ferry". They understand that the tourists "the poor people don't know anything about the situation".

He acknowledges that many "stand on the main avenue to attract customers", something "ugly and uncomfortable" for tourism. We also see "many people with two jobs". With a clear lack of regularization, although they ask us for "five years of registration" on the island and to be "clean of criminal records".

"They want to issue an ordinance of 15 authorizations"

"We have spoken with Alicia Páez, the councilor of La Graciosa, and she told us that "they want to issue an ordinance of 15 authorizations to end the situation", she says.

They hope that "the situation will improve for the summer" and be able to "see it from another point of view", the taxi driver wishes.
