The new pedestrian zone next to El Reducto beach, in Arrecife, was awash in pink and emotion yesterday with the third edition of the Arrecife For Them fashion show, in which 16 female cancer patients paraded before hundreds of attendees. The event, framed within the activities of World Breast Cancer Day, was promoted by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council.
Among the audience were numerous families directly affected by the disease, who came to show their support and demand unity, strength, and hope on the road to recovery.
The participants, who took to the catwalk one by one, wanted to send a clear message: "strength and hope can overcome pain," as several of them expressed at the end of the show. Their presence symbolized the importance of giving visibility to the disease and of vindicating life despite adversity.
The president of the AECC in Lanzarote, Lola Lasso, thanked the mayor, Yonathan de León, for his constant collaboration since the first edition and emphasized that "we want society to see people going through this disease as normal. This parade is an act of courage and a celebration of life.”
The mayor stressed that we must all be actively involved in the fight against cancer: "In addition to medical treatment and research, there is a human and social aspect that each of us can contribute. Patients appreciate that we are with them, giving them strength to move forward and never lose hope."
The event had the direct support of the Arrecife City Council, through the Departments of Acts and Events, and Commerce and Tourism, in addition to the involvement of numerous volunteers. The Encuentro Modas firm donated the designs worn by the participants, while Peluquería Juandy and Dalia were in charge of hair and makeup on a day full of emotion.
Since October 2023, Arrecife has hosted this fashion show thanks to municipal support. The two previous editions were held in La Plazuela, within the Open Commercial Zone. With the recent pedestrianization of the promenade next to El Reducto beach, this enclave is consolidated as the new setting for future editions, after the resounding success achieved this 2025.
