The Royal Residence of La Mareta opens its doors for the first time in honor of the anniversary of Teguise

As presidents of the Honorary Committee of the commemoration of the 600 years of the founding of the Royal Villa of Teguise, the Kings of Spain have had the courtesy to open for the first time to the public since its construction in the late 70s the doors of the Residence of La Mareta, house of the Spanish royal family and work of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by a group of first-year students from the Lanzarote School of Tourism, visited the King's House in Costa Teguise, and thanked "the response and predisposition of the Royal House with Teguise, on a historic day like today, November 15," in which "the commemoration of the sixth centenary of the transfer of the Canary Islands to the Count of Niebla is celebrated, with the consequent founding of the Villa de Teguise, which has been an important boost to the culture of Teguise and, by extension, to that of Lanzarote".

"As mayor and on behalf of the municipality, my words are of gratitude, for the courtesy they have had in opening this architectural heritage, the work of César, so that our students and all our neighbors can get to know it, and also so that new avenues of collaboration can be opened to take advantage of a complementary offer and point of tourist attraction such as a Residence that perfectly defines the Manrique spirit and its symbiosis with the island of Lanzarote," added Betancort.

For his part, the head of official events of the Royal Residence, Rufino Casillas, congratulated Teguise for its historic anniversary and explained how this first experience of opening the official house of the Kings in Lanzarote to the public has been. "Therefore, this will be a starting point for it to be used for other purposes," he said.

The Residence of La Mareta will once again allow the entry of the general public this Friday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (it is essential to bring ID).
