The intense rains that have fallen on Sunday night to Monday have once again caused the sewers to overflow in several neighborhoods of Arrecife, mainly Argana Alta and Titerroy, where several dead rats have appeared. The precipitations they have also caused "severe damage" in La Graciosa.
Regarding Arrecife, the sewers have burst in the Seguidillas streets, on the descent from the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, on Tanganillo street, on Víctor Hugo, on Tenderete street and on the one at the roundabout in front of the Argana school. "This is the problem every time it rains, that the neighborhood is filled with sewage," says Andrés Medina, a resident of this area.
The Councilor for Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council, Víctor Sanginés, has already moved to this place, who has given notice to Canal Gestión Lanzarote to "send someone to clean the sewers", full of sewage. Medina has assured that luckily "the storm drain works" have withstood the passage of water but, unfortunately, "the sewers have all burst again".
Flooded streets
The firefighters of the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote have worked during the night to try to minimize the impact of heavy rainfall. Their actions have focused on several streets of Arrecife, which have been flooded, mainly García Escámez street, at the height of the barracks.
The entrance to Arrecife via the LZ-2 has also been "a chaos" due to the rains that have fallen at night, while luckily the two bridges on the Circunvalación "have withstood the rains well", according to the manager of the Consortium, Enrique Espinosa. There are also problems in the back of the Nazaret school, in Arrecife, where several sewers have also burst, leaving a strong and unpleasant smell and flooding the entire street.
La Graciosa, a "total destruction"
The rains have also caused serious problems on the island of La Graciosa. "This is terrible, it's a total disaster," said Alicia Páez, councilor delegate of La Graciosa, this Monday. As she assured La Voz, "what had never been a disaster before, today it is too".
The water is entering the town of Caleta de Sebo from the road. Páez has sent several workers to cover the ravines. "First they started with the urban area, because it's terrible, but the beach area is also destroyed. We are trying to do everything quickly because this is a danger for everyone," she assured.
Several houses on the upper streets of the town have been "filled with water". "There is a drain that came from above and has only gone through one place. A lady has had everything flooded with sludge and mud. People are trying to help the elderly," said Páez, who assured that the Teguise City Council is sending several workers to help in these cleaning tasks.
