The Popular Party of Lanzarote denounces that the Temporary Foreigner Care Center (CATE) that the Ministry of the Interior installed next to the National Police station of Arrecife has been "flooded" with the first rains, "as warned by the island president of the popular and regional parliamentarian, Astrid Pérez", as mayor of Arrecife.
"This morning the CATE has dawned turned into a lagoon of water; a fact that occurs after the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, announced that the facility is already operational to receive immigrants arriving on the coasts of Lanzarote in boats", the popular say in a statement.
In this regard, they recall that "among the reports submitted by the City of Arrecife against the commissioning of the CATE in the current location, there is a Civil Protection report that warned of the risk of flooding due to rain and the consequences of unsanitary conditions that immigrants who were transferred to that Care Center consisting of 20 tents, chemical toilets and two modules for administrative management would have to endure".
In addition, they insist that the CATE was installed at the end of last year "without a municipal urban planning license, due to the negligence of the Ministry of the Interior when providing the documentation". Subsequently, the Council of Ministers approved it last February for general interest and without the need to request any permission from the City of Arrecife.
"The Ministry of the Interior assures that 2.1 million euros were invested in the CATE facilities, while in the license application submitted by the General Directorate of Police, after its installation, the execution project of these dependencies had a cost of 1.3 million, almost one million less than stated by the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana", they add from the PP.
