The esplanade in front of the Lanzarote Island Council was the place chosen by the Muslim community to celebrate the feast of the lamb, an important milestone in the Muslim calendar.

On Sunday the 16th (day 10 according to the Muslim lunar calendar) a religious ceremony was officiated with the Imam of Argana Alta. As will be remembered, in the capital there are currently 4 mosques, in addition to the aforementioned one in Argana Alta, there are the one in La Vega, which is the largest, another in Maneje and finally one in Altavista.

The feast of the lamb has been celebrated in Lanzarote for years, an event attended by hundreds of Muslims, as well as institutional representatives from the Cabildo and the Arrecife City Council. Among those present were the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, the Deputy Mayor of the capital, Echedey Eugenio, and the PSOE councilor, Alfredo Mendoza.

This festival is celebrated by Muslims regardless of their nationalities, and seeks the fraternal unity of human beings and the loyalty of their convictions.

The Feast of the Lamb

This festivity refers to a passage collected in the Koran, the sacred book of Islam. It commemorates the will and fidelity of Abraham who is about to sacrifice his son Ishmael as proof of obedience to God. Finally, God intervenes, confirming Abraham's faith and loyalty, preventing his son from being sacrificed and replacing him with a lamb.

The Muslim community wanted to send a message of integration and tolerance, as well as normalization in Lanzarote society, where many co-religionists live. Including third generations who were born on this island, feeling like locals.
