The renovation work on the Tías funeral home is complete. The mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, visited the facilities of the municipal wake this Thursday, located on Avenida Central Alcalde Florencio Suárez. "The building is fully equipped with new furniture, a glass room separated from the area where the deceased is watched over, a kitchen, ramps and adapted bathrooms," the Tías City Council has reported.

José Juan Cruz praised the cooperation between administrations to be able to provide "a better service" to citizens and explained that, "with the project, we have tried to provide the building with good accessibility and all the necessary elements to make it functional and meet the needs of the population."

For her part, the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, expressed her satisfaction "for seeing this much-needed work come true", while emphasizing that this project "is yet another example of the spirit of loyal cooperation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote with each and every one of the municipalities of the island."

The project, called "Comprehensive renovation of SP6T endowment building - Improvement of municipal building for wake use", has been executed with an investment of 311,314.08 euros financed by the 2021 Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

According to data from the Urban Planning area, managed by Ulpiano Calero, this renovation project has allowed the building to be adapted to Decree 132/2014, of December 29, on Mortuary Health, and to be enabled for pandemic situations, in addition to resolving all the needs of the wake with the entrance through the adjoining plot.

The total square meters built of the building is 469.60, of which 260.90 correspond to the space intended for the wake, and 208.60 correspond to the basement. The building will be used as a wake, prepared with two candle rooms and all the necessary services for its operation.

In addition, the entrance is resolved through the adjoining space, which has been transformed into a patio-garden from where the building is accessed by ramps and stairs, with its entrance from the south, thus solving the access through the most comfortable and sheltered area from the prevailing winds.
