The Playa Blanca Municipal Library is now a reality

The Castillo del Águila collective saw their dream come true last Friday, as their president, Javier Caídas, said, with the opening of the Municipal Library of Blanca. The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acula, and the councilor for Education and Culture, Francisco Guzmán.

Thanks to the collaboration of the neighbors with the collection of books and the institutional support, translated into the purchase of furniture and adaptation of the premises, "the town has at its disposal about 3,000 titles in a cozy space that invites reading and study", according to the Constorio.

The Municipal Library is located in what was the old town school, where many residents of Playa Blanca learned their first letters. Part of the audience at the inauguration recalled with nostalgia their passage through the old house built in 1957. The current director of the Playa Blanca School could not contain the emotion either, and for Jaime Quesada, the classroom that the Library occupies today, was his first classroom as a teacher in 78. The writer's words recalled small stories unfolded in that corner of the town that at that time only had 14 students.

Poetry was also present on a night of emotions. A group of children read several verses and the poet Aquilino García Vega recited two of his creations. His granddaughter, Sherezade Angulo García, read a heartfelt poem dedicated to mothers. The inaugural act of the Playa Blanca Library that ended with a reception.

The mayor pointed out that the municipal effort and that of the citizens who have lent a hand will be rewarded with the use of the new service. "Let's pamper this place, invite people to use it and strive to preserve it," said Gladys Acuña before declaring the Library open, together with a group of councilors from the municipal government group. For his part, Francisco Guzmán commented on the activities promoted by the City Council to promote reading and encouraged citizens to participate in the cultural program of the municipality.

Schedule

The Library's opening hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but in the future it is planned to extend to the afternoon. The Library has books on art, Canarian, German and English literature, novels, children's literature and encyclopedias, and will gradually be enriched with more titles. The space has tables and chairs for adults and furniture specially designed for children.
