Immigration has become the second biggest "problem" for the population of Lanzarote, only behind housing, according to the Survey of island issues from September 2025, which has gathered the perception of 700 people on the island.
However, seven out of ten respondents believe that foreigners do jobs that locals do not want to do (72%), that they make an important contribution to the island's economic development (65%), and that the fact that they accept lower salaries does not imply that salaries, in general, go down (54%). Furthermore, they reject the idea that foreigners take jobs away from the local population (80%).
In order, the first images or concepts that came to the participants' minds when they heard the word immigration were those of small boats (18%), poverty and inequality (14%), crime and insecurity (12%), or feelings of empathy and solidarity (10%). Meanwhile, other people pointed to the excessive increase in immigrants (9%) or the need to come to work or improve (9%).
Among those surveyed, eight out of ten respondents consider the number of migrants in Lanzarote to be "excessive or high," while one out of ten indicates it is acceptable.
This survey highlighted different claims about healthcare and migrant people. Among them, respondents were divided between those who considered that the presence of foreigners decreases the quality of healthcare (49%) and those who believe it does not (50%).
