The legendary sports journalist recalled his connection with the island since the beginning of Radio Lanzarote and reviewed the media and political scene

Interview with José María García on Radio Lanzarote

The legendary sports journalist José María García, the unmistakable voice of sports programs on Spanish radio, has given an interview to Radio Lanzarote on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

Techy Acosta and José Ramón Sánchez interviewed the veteran journalist, a precursor of late-night sports programs on the airwaves, on the Buenos Días Lanzarote program. García recalled his direct connection with the island, specifically since the beginning of Radio Lanzarote's broadcasts. He also recalled his honeymoon on the island and his frequent visits to Gran Canaria for family reasons today.

It was in 1992 when listeners could begin to listen to "Supergarcía" on the Radio Lanzarote dial.

Despite being recognized for his sports programs, the journalist has confessed that what he really liked was political information, although the lack of freedom in the era of Franco's censorship led him to opt for sports information.

In addition to reviewing his career and his innovative initiatives for his time, García offered his vision of the media and political situation in Spain.
