The high-impact storm Therese has placed Lanzarote on yellow alert for wind and waves Lanzarote starting from noon next Thursday. The island of volcanoes could reach gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

From midday this Tuesday, an isolated cold low is expected to form, whose effects will begin to be noticed over the islands from this Wednesday. The intense west component wind, gusts that could reach and exceed 70 kilometers per hour and a significant maritime storm. This situation will be accompanied by a cold front from this Wednesday, which will leave generally moderate precipitation on all islands, locally persistent on north and west slopes.

The forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts that the worst part of the storm will be borne by La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which will be from Wednesday under yellow warning for wind and that on Thursday they will increase to orange across the entire island of La Palma, the north of Tenerife and the peaks of Gran Canaria, with maximum gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour.

Starting Thursday, the center of the storm will approach the islands, which will bring south component wind and more intense. The yellow warning for wind will be in effect in Lanzarote between 3:00 PM and 12:00 AM on Thursday night, with maximum gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour and southwest wind. The probability of it occurring is between 40 and 70%.

In addition to the wind, there is also the swell, which will put the island on yellow alert between 12:00 and 24:00 at night, with combined sea from the northwest and waves between four and five meters. Meanwhile, the wind offshore will be from the southwest of force seven, between 50 and 61 kilometers per hour.

For the moment, Lanzarote is spared from the rain warnings that have already been activated in El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Aemet states that for Friday the instability will continue as Therese remains stationed northwest of the Canary Islands. Thus, locally strong and persistent showers and thunderstorms will occur on the south and west slopes of the islands with greater relief. Meanwhile, very strong westerly wind gusts will continue in exposed areas.

Furthermore, the adverse weather situation could also persist, at least, during the weekend. Finally, uncertainty grows as the prediction period increases, so the warnings could undergo modifications.
