This weekend, amidst the festive events honoring the patron saint of La Graciosa, San Felipe, a sculpture was inaugurated to honor the women of Graciosa, which is located around the Inocencia Páez Socio-Cultural Center.
During the event, which was attended by the Councilor for Social Welfare and Women, Marisol Armas, several women from Caleta de Sebo, dressed in typical clothing, explained the hard work they carried out for years in the town to support their families.
The sculptors, Juan Agustín Padrón Pérez (Special Prize in the wood carving category of the Pancho Lasso School) and Francisco Montelongo Hernández (Bachelor of Fine Arts), explained that their work is a typical hat from the eighth island, which has different measurements with Lanzarote, being flatter and wider. The artists pointed out that the sculpture is made of Arucas stone and the base of it is a callao.
On Sunday, another of the important events of the San Felipe festivities was held: the third Inocencia Páez memorial, which began with a mass in the parish and ended at the CSC that bears her name. There the Poetry Prize was awarded, which this year went to Manuela Betancort Armas. The Solidarity Award was also given, which this year went to the order of San Juan de Dios.
