The Government is studying putting a berth for the Civil Guard in the Órzola dock and some "huts" to assist immigrants

The Civil Guard will have a "fenced" space, with chemical toilets, to be able to assist "in conditions" the people who arrive by boat to the north of the Island

The Government Delegation is studying making available to the Civil Guard a berth in one of the pontoons of the Órzola dock, to assist immigrants arriving in the northern area of Lanzarote in suitable conditions. In addition, it will also have some "huts" to carry out the reception of people arriving at the northern port.

This was announced by the acting mayor of Haría, Víctor Robayna, on Radio Lanzarote – Onda Cero. The nationalist is "grateful" that the sub-delegate of the Government, Teresa Mayans, traveled in these days to the dock of Órzola, together with the directors of Ports of Las Palmas, "taking an interest in the reception of boats"

“The Civil Guard was asking for these facilities. Because for them it is something chaotic when immigrants arrive in Órzola”, says Robayna. That berth will be in a pontoon that is already installed in the northern dock, which will be “freed and ceded” so that both the Civil Guard patrol boat and the Salvamar can access it.

Víctor Robayna assures that the “intention” is that this berth will remain as a fixed base for the Civil Guard patrol boat. “We have to facilitate their work”, says the acting mayor, who acknowledges that the absence of a place to dock in Órzola was a common complaint from the Civil Guard union.

One of the reasons why the Civil Guard has difficulties in assisting immigrants in Órzola is that the dock “does not stop”, and the continuous traffic of boats hinders the work of the Civil Guard. “When those weekends of up to three or four boats appear, a kind of conflict is created when receiving and receiving them", details the mayor.

In relation to the future facilities that the Civil Guard will have, Víctor Robayna details that they will have a fenced area in the dock, where there will be “huts” that serve as reception for immigrants. In addition, chemical toilets will also be installed to meet the needs of the people who arrive on the Island.
