The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has activated this Saturday the pre-alert situation due to winds in Lanzarote, a measure that extends to the entire archipelago due to the forecast of strong gusts that could reach or exceed 60 to 80 kilometers per hour.
According to the regional Executive, the pre-alert comes into effect this July 6 at 12:00 hours, after the update made based on data from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other official sources.
In the case of Lanzarote, the winds will especially affect areas of the interior and the southern half of the island, where the most intense gusts are expected. The phenomenon will also be felt in Fuerteventura, as well as in the islands with greater relief, mainly in summits, northwest and southeast slopes, and leeward areas.
The General Directorate of Emergencies reminds that this measure is adopted following the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA), and the population is asked to take extreme precautions, especially in travel, outdoor activities and areas exposed to the wind.
