The Arrecife City Council appoints Antonio Lorenzo Martín as official chronicler

The former president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and writer from Arrecife, Antonio Lorenzo Martín, will be named next Monday, in the Ordinary Plenary Session of the capital's City Council, official chronicler of Arrecife. This has been stated by the Councilor for Education, Lorenzo Lemaur, who has already communicated this appointment to the interested party himself and to the secretary of the capital's Consistory.

"The void created by not remembering the history of the capital of the Island is the main reason for requesting the appointment of an official chronicler to set in motion the mechanisms of memory and rescue the important milestones of the city," municipal sources point out. Therefore, Antonio Lorenzo Martín is proposed, "an affable person with ample experience regarding knowledge, both of popular plots and of history, not only of this municipality but of the entire island".

Culture and politics

Lemaur and the rest of the Corporation understand that Antonio Lorenzo "is the person capable of exercising his role as chronicler with the zeal that characterizes him. Professionally qualified to investigate aspects of municipal history and to bring that knowledge to paper and be understood and enjoyed by the residents", as he has already done on occasions with his appearances on radio, press and television and with what he calls "Minor History". According to the mayor, "Lorenzo provides reasons to rediscover ourselves and talk about ourselves again, which is the most sensible way to review history and make our city a vital and respected place at the same time".

In addition, it is added that "Antonio Lorenzo Martín is a person linked to the world of culture who has had an extensive working role in the Registry and who has fulfilled his contribution to politics in the time in which he held positions of public responsibility". Therefore, the writer will receive this tribute from the capital's City Council next Monday.
