The Directorate General of Emergencies, based on the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), has declared a pre-alert for dust haze for this Thursday from 1:30 PM in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
According to information from the Government of the Canary Islands, during the next few hours the possibility of new convective developments over Africa is maintained, which may leave new contributions of dust towards the Canary Islands and could cause an increase in concentrations of suspended particles and an even greater reduction in visibility.
In fact, the air quality in recent hours has worsened notably, going from "good" in the early morning to "unfavorable" this midday. According to the Air Quality Control and Monitoring Network of the Canary Islands, the stations located in Las Caletas and Costa Teguise are registering "unfavorable" air quality due to microparticles of less than 10 micrometers.
For its part, in other areas such as Arrecife, the air quality is "regular" regarding the presence of microparticles of less than 10 micrometers.
This phenomenon can generate or aggravate health problems for people with chronic and/or respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is recommended:
-Do not go outside and keep doors and windows of houses closed.
-Clean dusty surfaces with damp cloths.
-Stay in humid environments and hydrate.
-Do not engage in physical exercise outdoors.
-In case of worsening respiratory symptoms, call 1-1-2.
