The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the yellow alert for dust haze until Monday, February 23, due to the persistence of suspended dust and the episode of anomalously high temperatures for this time of year.

Sunday, February 22: heat and intense haze

For this Sunday, a little cloudy or clear skies are expected, although marked by the presence of significant dust. The highest concentrations of suspended dust will be recorded during the first half of the day and in the early afternoon hours.

Temperatures will experience a slight to moderate rise, more pronounced in the minimums and especially notable in northern areas regarding the maximums, where it is not ruled out that 30 ºC could be reached locally.

As for the wind, it will blow between light and moderate from the northeast, tending to an east component at the end of the early morning. In inland areas and on the west slope, it will be moderate from the southeast, with the possibility of occasionally very strong gusts during the first half of the day.

Monday, February 23: haze continues

Looking ahead to Monday, Aemet forecasts clear skies with intervals of high cloudiness during the second half of the day, with haze persisting.

The minimum temperatures will rise slightly in the west and will remain unchanged in the rest of the areas, while the maximums will tend to a slight decrease.

The wind will be between light and moderate from the east. During the early morning and morning, the southeast will predominate, with intervals of strong winds in inland areas and the northwest slope. Throughout the second half of the day, it will tend to be light from the northeast.

Authorities recommend extreme caution, especially for people with respiratory problems, due to the persistence of suspended dust in the air.
