The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the yellow warning for calima until the day of this Wednesday in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Initially, the warning was in effect until this Tuesday.

In this way, the yellow warning will end at 12:00 on Wednesday, which came into force at the same time this Monday due to the intensity of this suspended dust episode that is leaving a visibility of less than 3,000 meters. Likewise, Aemet reports that the haze is significant on the surface and at altitude.

On the other hand, Lanzarote and La Graciosa are also under yellow alert for strong swell and wind during Monday afternoon due to waves that can reach four meters and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

High concentrations of suspended dust (particles) can cause mild symptoms such as irritation of the nose, throat, itchy eyes or cough, but also more serious ones, triggering asthmatic crises in people who suffer from this disease or aggravating and worsening the clinical state and symptomatology of patients with respiratory or heart diseases. The probability of upper or lower respiratory tract infections also increases.

Recommendations to consider regarding the haze

– Avoid the performance of activities that involve physical effort outdoors.

– Stay at home or indoors as long as possible and stay as isolated as possible from the outside air closing windows.

– Perform the cleaning of the surfaces with the dust with damp cloths.

– Stay in humid environments and hydrate, as well as continue with the usual medication.

– Do not perform physical exercises outside.

– Pay attention to the information and forecasts that the authorities provide.

– In case of the respiratory symptoms worsening, call 1-1-2.
