Televisión Canaria has offered the Teguise City Council to broadcast the New Year's Eve chimes from La Graciosa. The project was presented last week to the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, who still does not know "the economic part" and what an event of this type may cost.
The "possibility" of closing the year on the eighth Canary Island is something that the mayor agrees with, who has requested the valued report of this event. "I don't know more, but if it is something affordable, let the people of La Graciosa know that the bells will be rung in La Graciosa," the mayor has said.
He has even pointed out that if he has to ask for "help from another institution, he will ask for it" so that the people of La Graciosa can enjoy this event and the eighth Canary Island, "which has become a tremendous tourist reference", is contemplated by all viewers of Televisión Canaria during the chimes.
The public television of the Canary Islands has already broadcast the chimes from Lanzarote. In Arrecife, the people of Lanzarote crowded the Plaza de Las Palmas and the surrounding streets to follow this event on the night of December 31, 2011.
