Pilgrimage Santiago Apóstol in Tahíche, 2023

On the afternoon of last Saturday, the residents of the town of Tahíche, dressed in traditional, typical and peasant clothes, celebrated the traditional pilgrimage in honor of their patron saint Santiago Apóstol.

At 7:00 p.m., from the vicinity of the hermitage, the route began through the different streets of the town with the decorated carts pulled by donkeys and the musical chords of the parrandas enlivening the route. During the same, the pilgrims enjoyed a happy and participatory afternoon where there was no shortage of boiled eggs, roscos, sponge cakes, torrijas, some pella of kneaded gofio and a good piece of cheese, without forgetting the good Lanzarote wine with the odd beer to make the journey more bearable, preventing the throats from suffering with the songs.

In the town square, next to the Socio-cultural Center, the Patron Saint Santiago Apóstol awaited them, accompanied by the parish priest of Teguise, Juan Manuel Molina. Thus began the offering with non-perishable products destined for Cáritas Parroquiales de Teguise for later distribution among the most vulnerable families. After the offering, the image of Santiago Apóstol, accompanied by the parish priest and the residents of Tahíche, returned to his hermitage.

A few minutes later, the romero dance began on the sports court of the center where the election of the Romera and Romero of the festivities took place, titles that fell to Concepción Cruz and José Manuel Caraballo, both received a box with edible products as a prize.
