Sixth grade students from the Santa María de Los Volcanes school, managed by the religious congregation of the Nazarenas, visited the headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council this Monday morning to learn firsthand about the functioning of public administrations and their representative bodies.

At the Cabildo, the students were received by the president, Pedro San Ginés, with whom they were able to talk about "issues regarding the powers and functioning of the island councils." Afterwards, the students moved to the rest of the offices of the first Island Corporation, visiting the General Secretariat, the Cabildo Archive and the Biosphere Reserve area, as well as the Plenary Hall of the Institution.

In addition, the students also visited the Arrecife City Council this Monday, where they were received by the mayor, Manuel Fajardo, the first deputy mayor, José Montelongo, and the councilors of Education and Culture, Paca Toledo and Eva de Anta, with whom they were able to speak in the plenary hall.

The visit responds to an educational project of the school, which involves the students in the design of the future community management regulations, for which they previously study the governing bodies of the local and island administration.

According to what they have explained from the Consistory, "the young people were interested in knowing the greatest difficulties of public management, the functioning of the Plenary, the consequences of the crisis on the Government of the city or the existence or not of consensus in municipal decisions between the mayor and the rest of the councilors".
