On Saturday night at 9:00 p.m., the Catholic community celebrated the Easter Vigil presided over by the titular parish priest, Juan Carlos Medina. The Easter Vigil represents the central event of the Christian faith, the resurrection of Jesus who has conquered death.
This celebration is the most important in the Christian liturgical calendar, as it marks the end of Lent and the beginning of Easter. For most of the faithful, it represents that death is not the end, but that life continues after it. The resurrection of Christ is proof that life is stronger than death and that God gives us the hope of eternal life.
The Easter Vigil is a ceremony full of symbolism and tradition, beginning with the blessing of the fire and the lighting of the "Easter Candle," which represents the light of the risen Christ. Then begins the liturgy of the Word, where several biblical passages from the Old and New Testaments are read that relate the history of salvation. Readings to which the corresponding psalms are also added for such a special night and ends with the proclamation of the Holy Gospel continuing with the "Baptismal Liturgy", with a special rite where the "Litany of the Saints" are sung.
In addition, the renewal of baptism was carried out with the sprinkling of water on all the people, renewing their baptismal promises, taking the light of the Easter Candle again as their godparents did on the day of their baptism.
Finally, it continues with the "Eucharistic Liturgy", where the altar is prepared with bread and wine, a solemn moment where the celebrating priest carries out the consecration that will later be distributed among the faithful. The Eucharist ends with the solemn blessing and officially concludes the "Easter Triduum", the songs of the celebration were enlivened by the "Parish Choir", directed by the professor, José Umpiérrez.
