Carlos Padrón, owner of Salinas de Janubio, received this Friday at the Adán Martín Auditorium in Tenerife the award that designated La flor de sal as the best sea salt in the Canary Islands.
The Government of the Canary Islands has distinguished the best productions of the Archipelago in the awards of the Agrocanarias Official Contest 2022, a contest organized by the Canary Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, which recognizes and distinguishes the quality of wines, cheeses, gofios, olive oils and sea salts of the islands.
The different contests registered a high participation, with a total of 456 samples submitted, of which, 86 samples were of gofio from 19 mills of the islands; 151 samples from wineries of the 11 Protected Designations of Origin for wines; 190 cheese samples from 65 cheese factories in the archipelago; 21 samples belonging to 13 oil mills for virgin olive oil; and 8 samples from 4 salt mines for sea salt. A total of 119 medals were awarded among all the contests, including 33 silver, 48 gold and 38 grand gold.
In relation to the best productions of the archipelago 2022, the best wine of the Canary Islands went to Pagos de Reverón Naturally Sweet, Reverón, DO Abona (Tenerife), produced by Eugenio Reverón. As for the best virgin sea salt, the Flor de sal from Salinas de Janubio, from Lanzarote, won this recognition. In the category of best extra virgin olive oil, the award went to the arbequina-hojiblanca-picual oil, of the Teguerey brand, from Fuerteventura, produced by Luis Hernández Santana. For its part, the best gofio of the Archipelago was received by Gofio Gomero, Gofio Ideal 5 (wheat, millet, barley, oats and chickpea) PGI Gofio Canario, produced by Rayco Herrera. Finally, the best cheese of the Canary Islands was for Maxorata, semi-cured pasteurized goat's milk cheese smeared with paprika, Fuerteventura, from the Grupo Ganaderos de Fuerteventura.
