Taste Lanzarote prepares to celebrate the 1st Volcanic Cuisine Festival

Saborea Lanzarote is preparing to celebrate the I Festival of Volcanic Cuisines, an event that will be held on November 26 and 27 at the Varadero in Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, and which represents the great reunion of the sector after the pandemic generated by the coronavirus.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, the councilor of the Primary Sector and Economic Promotion areas, Andrés Stinga, and the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, were in charge of kicking off the Festival, revealing some of the secrets of an event that will take place this weekend in the Varadero of Puerto del Carmen and that will revolve around volcanic culture.

Corujo explained that the Festival "will be a great celebration, the best meeting point to give visibility to the talent and creativity of our chefs, who are producing authentic wonders in their dishes; to the effort of our agricultural, livestock and fishing producers, who are contributing a first-class genre to the kitchens while pampering the agricultural landscape and taking care of the terrestrial and marine ecosystems and biodiversity, and for the palate of a population that is increasingly knowledgeable and demanding with what they eat. Three ingredients," she continued, "that have placed Lanzarote on the gastronomic map of a country that is a leader in the world when it comes to cooking and eating very well."

The president encouraged the population to participate in "this festival of island gastronomy", and thanked "the availability, interest and dedication" of the exhibitors, "protagonists of an event that allows us to continue taking steps towards food sovereignty, reducing our dependence on the outside and improving the conservation of the landscape."

For his part, Andrés Stinga, reiterated his gratitude to the exhibitors and to "those who have collaborated to make this Festival a reality", and detailed the program of a festive event that will have an "intelligent and sustainable mobility plan for the enjoyment of the resident population and our visitors".

José Juan Cruz, finally, thanked the Cabildo of Lanzarote "for having chosen Puerto del Carmen for the celebration of this event", which he extended to the representatives of the exhibitors, "whose work is fundamental for the economic and labor revitalization of the municipality".

Intelligent and sustainable mobility

Andrés Stinga explained that the Cabildo will increase the frequency of departures of the bus lines that connect Arrecife and Playa Blanca with Puerto del Carmen, and that a shuttle bus service will be enabled to connect the Medular road of Puerto del Carmen with the Varadero every 15 minutes.

The Festival will also have a public parking in the vicinity of the Varadero.

The I Festival of Volcanic Cuisines

The I Festival of Volcanic Cuisines will be held from 12:00 to 22:00 hours and from 11:00 to 16:00, respectively. Gastronomy, music, creativity, workshops, training sessions and talent come together in an event in which more than 60 top-level exhibitors will take part with the aim of continuing to add efforts, knowledge and experience to improve the positioning of the destination.

The Aula de las Cocinas Volcánicas is a space for workshops and presentations given by well-known professionals in the Philippines, Mexico, Portugal and Spain who have in common their passion for volcanic gastronomy. 'The Cartagena countryside and the Mediterranean Sea', 'Chinijo Chef', 'The volcanic garden' and 'Volcanic wines' are some of the themes that will be addressed by the chefs María Gómez, Sofía and Víctor and José Álvarez, and the sommelier David Seijas, respectively.

In the Gastronomic Market, restaurants, wineries, cheese factories, artisan breweries, producers and other companies in the sector will offer both their products and their culinary creations prepared specifically for this occasion.

Music also plays a fundamental role in this gastronomic festival. On Saturday afternoon, at 8:00 p.m., there will be a tribute to the Irish band U2 on the stage of the square. Once finished, at 10:00 p.m., it will be the turn of La Mari de Chambao. On Sunday, at 2:30 p.m., those responsible for entertaining the public will be Treinta y tantos.
