The airline Ryanair has communicated to passengers its refusal to compensate them after the cancellation of flight FR2017 on August 31st, which covered the Madrid-Lanzarote route. This was communicated to La Voz by one of the passengers.
The flight, which was scheduled to take off at 9:55 PM, was canceled when passengers had already boarded and had been waiting for almost two hours to take off inside due to a technical failure in one of the doors that technicians were trying to fix.
During that wait and close to 12:00 AM, an incident occurred on board when one of the passengers decided to smoke inside one of the bathrooms. Because of this, the Guardia Civil had to intervene.
At almost the same time, the airline itself sent a text message to passengers informing them that the flight was canceled due to "a technical problem and the Lanzarote Airport curfew" and that it would depart the next day at 5:30 PM.
After passengers' claim for compensation for the cancellation, Ryanair has deemed their request "unsuitable" arguing that "the flight was delayed because the airport's arrival curfew in Lanzarote was not met due to an incident with a passenger" and that this "escaped the control" of the airline itself.
However, the plane was initially delayed by two hours due to the incident with the door, which occurred before the passenger who smoked on board.
