The inauguration of the former Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands took place at an event held at the Marina Lanzarote facilities

Rita Martín Pérez has been appointed as the new president of the Rotary Club Lanzarote for the rotary year 2020/2021, which begins this July. The former Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands and former director of the Lanzarote Tourist Board has taken over the presidency of the Lanzarote Rotarians, which until last night was chaired by Zebenzuí Rodríguez.

The Rotary act of inauguration of Rita Martín as president of the Rotary Club Lanzarote took place on Saturday night at the Marina Lanzarote facilities, in the capital of the island of volcanoes.

Rita Martín, a native of Lanzarote and a resident of Tao, has a higher degree in Tourism Activities, and currently works as an official of the Cabildo de Lanzarote where she works as a technician attached to the Economic Promotion Area.

Rotary Club Lanzarote is a philanthropic association, present on five continents, with more than 32,000 rotary clubs made up of more than 1,300,000 members, who promote solidarity initiatives. In Lanzarote, since its establishment in 1991, the conejeros rotarians have promoted multiple solidarity initiatives in favor of groups such as Afa, Afol, Calor y Café, Cáritas, Adislan, Afacoda or El Cribo, among others.

Rita Martín will now preside over the Rotary Club Lanzarote. Together with its new board of directors.

Annually they award the highest award called 'Conejero of the Year' where the contribution of outstanding personalities from the Island, or entities that have promoted economic, social or cultural development in recent decades, is recognized and rewarded.

The Rotarians of Lanzarote have donated in recent months, after the situation due to covid 19, a ton of food to help needy families in Arrecife and other municipalities of Lanzarote.

Together with Rita Martín, her board of directors for this new rotary year includes Otilia Aguilar Tophan, as secretary, María Dolores Navas, former president of Adislan, as mace bearer; Marcial Cabrera Lemes, former Head of Workshops at Flick Canarias until his retirement, as treasurer; Rafael Montero Morán as head of the Rotary Foundation; and María José Docal, former president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, are also on the board of directors as heads of different areas; Ana María Oncina, manager of Essacan and member of the board of directors of the Lanzarote Confederation of Entrepreneurs; the journalist Severino A. Betancort, José Luis Otaduy Pérez, law graduate and expert in social integration from Penitentiary Institutions (until his retirement); the industrialist Ventura Acuña and the businessman Uddo Dadlani.

The outgoing president, the ETT executive, Zebenzuí Rodríguez, took stock of the good management carried out in this last year at the head of the board of directors of the conejeros rotarians, a stage that has been characterized in recent months by helping families who have experienced food needs after the alarm and the closure of businesses and activities. As outgoing president, Zebenzuí Rodríguez received the Paul Harris insignia (the highest distinction awarded in rotary clubs) from Rita Martín and the head of the Rotary Foundation in the club, Rafael Montero.
