Lanzarote will experience this Sunday, August 2, a day marked by the combination of high temperatures and a notable increase in wind. The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Emergencies, has declared a pre-alert situation due to wind throughout the archipelago starting at 3:00 PM, a measure adopted based on the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and in application of the Specific Plan for Emergencies in the Canary Islands due to Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
In the case of Lanzarote, moderate northeasterly winds are expected with intervals of strong gusts, especially in the interior and south of the island, where very strong gusts are not ruled out during the afternoon. In the archipelago as a whole, maximum gusts could reach 80 kilometers per hour, with greater incidence on the southeast and west slopes of the islands.
Added to this situation is the yellow alert for heat that will remain in effect throughout Sunday in Lanzarote. The meteorological forecast points to a clear sky with the presence of haze at altitude and a new rise in temperatures.
Thermometers will exceed 35 degrees in areas of the interior and southeast of the island, where 37 degrees could even be reached at specific points. Furthermore, minimum temperatures may not drop below 25 degrees in these same areas, favoring an especially warm night.
Given this scenario, the authorities recommend extreme caution, avoiding outdoor activities during the central hours of the day, staying well hydrated, and securing objects that could be displaced by the wind, especially on terraces, rooftops, and open spaces.
The combination of intense heat, haze, and strong wind gusts will thus mark a Sunday of adverse meteorological conditions in Lanzarote, so the population is asked to follow self-protection recommendations and remain attentive to the evolution of official alerts.
