The Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert for heat and calima for Lanzarote this Monday, September 14.
The heat will particularly affect the southern half of the island of Lanzarote. Temperatures could reach 36ºC from Monday onwards. Likewise, high nighttime temperatures are expected, which will barely drop below 25 or 26ºC, especially on the islands of the province of Las Palmas, which will make rest and thermal recovery difficult.
From the Emergency Consortium, they indicate that they will monitor the evolution of the episode and successive updates of the meteorological forecast, with Lanzarote and La Graciosa potentially entering a state of Alert in the coming hours, although an improvement in conditions is expected from Wednesday onwards.
Regarding the calima, it will be widespread, which will translate into a very unfavorable air quality index, with the highest concentrations in the low-lying areas of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, where over 100 mgr/m3 will be exceeded from Monday morning.
