Playa Blanca beach remains closed and the City Council is awaiting the results of the water analysis

The Tourism Councilor hopes to receive the conclusions of the study on Monday afternoon. "Apparently it was nothing serious, a kind of hives or itching, which affected only three people"

The town's beach of Playa Blanca remains closed to swimming, after the red flag had to be raised this Sunday due to a possible water contamination that affected three people, two bathers and a lifeguard. Now, the City Council is awaiting the results of the water analysis to find out what happened and, if possible, reopen the beach to the public.

“We must be cautious”, the first deputy mayor and Tourism Councilor, Ángel Domínguez, told La Voz. The councilor advocates waiting to receive those results to be able to know “what was the cause” and if it really obeys an episode of contamination. “Yesterday the beach was full of people and only those three cases occurred, so we have to wait to see what happened and whether or not we can reopen the beach", the councilor points out.

Regarding the expected time to receive those water analysis results, Domínguez points out that he hopes it will be “throughout this Monday”, predicting that they could arrive “late in the afternoon”. “We are talking about a possible contamination, and the cause can be anything, such as the presence of a jellyfish. We have to wait to have a definite opinion”, he adds.

The affected people, two bathers and a lifeguard, apparently suffered “a kind of hives or itching”, according to the councilor, who assures that the first two affected went to the Playa Blanca health center, while the lifeguard left to her home.

“It was nothing serious, but we preferred to close the beach to swimming because we didn't know what was happening, because it is true that a spill was not visible to the naked eye. We will wait to know what we are facing”, Domínguez concludes.
