Sexual violence in festive celebrations continues to create controversy. The latest event in Lanzarote, in which a girl was sexually assaulted by a man, has alerted parents on the island. The president of the Mararía Association, Nieves Rosa Hernández, explained this Friday in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, the importance of sexual education to end sexual violence.
For the president, young people "are not aware" of the seriousness of sexual assaults. "The rebound for which sexual and gender violence is not recognized" at younger ages is worrying. The association has stressed that it is necessary to be aware and recognize the existence of this type of violence. "The first point to stop at is recognition."
The main reason for denying sexual violence is "being instructed in this type of relationship from a very early age," she revealed. Pornography is the main culprit for the occurrence of assaults and for young people not having healthy sexual relationships. "They don't know about sexual education or sexual relations from watching porn," she added. Watching porn videos has become a learning trend and creates "a very perverse effect" among young people. Things have changed for the president, before sexual education "was given in schools", and "now it seems to be cursed", she recalled.
In most cases, the main victim of toxic teaching is women. "Porn exercises multiple and dominating violence against women", she revealed. A consumption of sexual content with which men, mostly, "exercise dominance to imitate that style of sexual relations", Hernández stressed. A behavior that encourages young women to get involved in toxic relationships. "Girls feel inhibited thinking that their role in the sexual relationship should be submissive, otherwise, the boy will not want to continue with them", she added.

The president explained the "importance" of the violet points and the "great" work they do during the festivities in Lanzarote. "They are a safe haven in case of aggression," she said. The Lanzarote association knows that it should serve to "dissuade those who go out to party and think they can make the other person their field of action", although they are aware that unfortunately, that does not happen. "It should be a brake for that," she pointed out.
Therefore, it is based on being a "tool to have fun and be free during the holidays", something that is increasingly "requested from the Institutions", she stressed. It is absolutely necessary that these points exist. The news shows that more and more people believe that "they can abuse, penetrate and rape without any problem", she explained. A behavior for which these support points "favor victims to dare to tell the facts", she added.
Control also in the family environment
Rosa pointed out the importance of dealing with sexual education from the family environment and exercising control over the use of the internet in young people. In addition to setting limits on outings to parties and social gatherings for adolescents.
"We all have to be together, but it also has to be a matter for the parents," she advised. She stressed that it is "essential to work from the institutions and parents with minors." On the part of parents, Hernández points out, there must be "a control of outings to festivals or parties and the alcoholic beverages that their children drink." She concludes by stressing that alcohol does not justify the aggressions, but "contributes to a manifest insecurity".
