National Police warns migrant minors of the risks of the internet after a 'sextortion' case

National Police agents belonging to the Citizen Participation Group of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria recently gave an informative and preventive talk on the risks of using the Internet and social networks, at a children's reception center, at the request of one of its educators, after a minor was the victim of a case of "sextortion," that is, blackmail in which the attacker threatens the victim to perform a specific action in exchange for not making public images or videos with sexual connotations, through social networks.

During the session, minors learned guidelines for the safe use of the Internet and social media, as well as the risks of sharing personal information and imagesThe agents explained the importance of protecting their privacy and the legal consequences of certain online behaviors, insisting on the importance of detecting risky situations in time and knowing how to ask for help in the face of any threat or attempt at digital manipulation

 

Prevention of Sexual Assault 

Subsequently, the agents focused on the Prevention of Sexual Assaults, with the aim of raising young people's awareness about the seriousness of these behaviors and their impact on victims

The content addressed concepts such as consent, mutual respect, and gender equality, promoting critical reflection on habits and attitudes that can lead to aggressive behaviors.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that being a minor does not exempt one from legal, social, or emotional responsibility for these types of crimes.With these actions, the National Police reinforces its commitment to the prevention, education, and protection of children and adolescents, bringing police work closer to the school and social environment of the most vulnerable minors.The Citizen Participation Group will continue developing training activities within the Master Plan, promoting safety, responsibility, and coexistence in the educational centers of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
