The artistic and technical group of 'Killing Jesus, a man for the nation' gave the public of Yaiza a spectacular scenic experience and the 1,200 spectators who sold out tickets in the Plaza de la Alameda were consistent with the quality of the work written and directed by Salvador Leal, applauding his interpretation, staging and original music played live by Tarambana Band, on a southern night full of creation and spectacle in which everyone shared emotions to honor, this Holy Wednesday, World Theater Day (March 27).
The plot of the play and its staging, focused on the human and socio-political aspect and all the conspiracy and corruption that surrounded Jesus in his last days of life, kept the attention of the audience from the irruption of music in the first scene to the death of Jesus and his resurrection thanks to the rhythm of the theater arranged in six scenic spaces, agile dialogues and special effects, one of them, the appearance in the dim light of Jesus crucified raised behind the scenes by a hydraulic motor. It weighs about 100 kilos between the aluminum cross covered with material that simulates wood and the weight of the protagonist Cristo García Benasco.
"Theater is a beautiful human gesture, people have been moved and we are very proud of this work created, worked on and performed by people from Lanzarote, with the participation of actors from Yaiza, and delighted that the public has been able to fully enjoy what is undoubtedly already the great cultural event of Holy Week and one of the reference scenic functions in the Island and all of the Canary Islands," said the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda.
Neighbors of Yaiza and Lanzarote and national and foreign tourists who were among the public expressed their opinions at the end of the function, prioritizing the assessment of the months of work involved in a work of this magnitude with half a hundred performers on stage, the characterization of actors and actresses and the feeling of emotion and feeling closely events that occurred in the year 33 AD.
"We had a challenge because last year, and not only by our opinion, but by the opinion of the public, we set the bar high. And that already marks you with a little more pressure, but very grateful for the confidence of the Yaiza City Council that allows us to create," said Salvador Leal, who forms a tandem with Germán Barrios in Trama2 Producciones for this cultural project sponsored by the Yaiza City Council within its policy of expanding the performing arts.
'Killing Jesus, a man for the nation' fulfills its double objective of occupying a cultural space during Holy Week in Lanzarote, providing a professional performing arts offer and promoting theater and the learning process among actors and scriptwriters from Yaiza, who are no longer only called to participate in different professional projects, but have been encouraged to create the company Enganchateatro.
The function in the Plaza de la Alameda ended with a surprise because after the ovation to the artists and messages of thanks, Tarambana Band performed one of the songs that they will offer this Friday in Puerto Calero (9:00 p.m.), in their tribute concert to Queen where they will have the voice and interpretation of their lead singer Momo Cortés.
