The president of the Neighborhood Association Los Pitufos y Los Geranios of Tinasoria, Melquiades García Montelongo, has passed away this Sunday, a piece of news that became known on the same day that the traditional maritime procession of El Carmen from Valterra is scheduled, a neighborhood to which he was closely linked during his childhood and youth as he belonged to a fishing family.

Upon learning of his passing, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, publicly conveyed his condolences to the family, friends, loved ones, and residents of Tinasoria on behalf of the municipal corporation, the city council workers, and himself.

The mayor recalled García Montelongo's professional career as a worker at the Arrecife City Council until his retirement a few years ago, a period during which, as he highlighted, he was highly appreciated by his colleagues for his dedication, kindness, and good sense of humor.

He also valued Melquiades García's involvement in the neighborhood movement and the close collaboration maintained during his term as mayor, especially in the comprehensive transformation process of the Tinasoria neighborhood. As president of the neighborhood association and head of the Festival Committee, he advocated for the initiatives promoted to improve this residential area.

Through his social media, Yonathan de León expressed his sorrow over the loss. "Today I received with immense sadness the news of the passing of Melquiades García Montelongo, president of the Neighborhood Association Los Pitufos y Los Geranios, of the Tinasoria neighborhood. This past Saturday I had the opportunity to visit him in the hospital, and today he has left us. It is news that is difficult to process."

The mayor also highlighted that "Melquiades was a city council worker for many years, in addition to dedicating a significant part of his life to the neighborhood movement, always with commitment, closeness, and an tireless vocation for service. As president of the Neighborhood Association Los Pitufos y Los Geranios, he worked with dedication to improve the lives of the Tinasoria neighborhood and all its residents."

De León concluded his message with words of farewell: "Rest in peace, Melquiades. Thank you for your dedication, your example, and all that you did for your neighborhood and for our city. Your memory will always remain among us."

The wake will be set up this Sunday, starting at 5:00 PM, at the Tanatorio Enalta in Arrecife.
