The annual conference of the social and cultural association for women Mararía, in collaboration with Equipo Europa Canarias, a pro-European and non-partisan youth association, will once again bring together in Lanzarote in 2025 the message, reflection, and warnings of some of the most influential feminist voices of our time, both nationally and internationally.
Under the title Violence against women: a global perspective: Feminism without borders, reflections from Spain to conflict zones, and during June 12th and 13th, attendees will listen and discuss the new faces of patriarchal violence, the geographies of abuse, and the challenges of various international feminist movements.
The meeting, which will be held at the Lancelot Hotel in Arrecife, also has the collaboration of the Coordinating Body of Women's Organizations for Participation and Equality COMPI this year. Registrations, which are free and open to the public, can be made through the link.
The program of presentations will open on Thursday the 12th at 9:30 a.m., with a welcome from the authorities and the inaugural presentation State Obligations Regarding Economic Gender Violence, by the judge and member of the General Council of the Judiciary, Lucía Avilés. Following her will be the pioneering lawyer in the defense of women's rights and co-founder of the first feminist law firm in Spain, Consuelo Abril, with the conference Challenges Facing Male Violence.
The morning session will conclude with the talk Challenges in the Fight Against Femicide and Other Forms of Patriarchal Violence Against Women, by journalist and writer Graciela Atencio, director of Feminicidio.net and president of the NGO La Sur.
In the afternoon, the popular educator, feminist activist, and survivor of prostitution and trafficking, Sonia Sánchez, will speak and propose a colloquium; the first day will close with the president of COMPI and director of the NGO Haurralde, Patricia Ponce, with the presentation Women in the Spotlight: Progress and Challenges in the Beijing+30 Agenda, 2030 Agenda, and CSW69, and a musical performance by Marey Martín Calero.
The European Context
Friday morning will be dedicated to feminism in the context of the European Union and the Mediterranean. The session will be opened by the Doctor of Political Science, member of the EU Committee of Experts, and author of the book Twelve European Women. Building the European Union, Susana del Río, with the conference Women in the Strategic and Geopolitical Projection of Europe. She will be followed by the expert in International Cooperation, gender, family law, and migration, Houda Zekri, who will speak about digital violence in Morocco, and the activity will conclude with journalist Sonia Marco, with her conference Mediterranean Women So Far, So Close. Turkish, Lebanese, Tunisian, and Croatian women at the Mediterranean Crossroads, and the screening of the documentary Women in Lebanon.
