Cruz del Mar Fishing

Manuel Hernández Marrero, who survived the Cruz del Mar tragedy more than four decades ago, passed away this Sunday at the age of 87.

Of the three sailors who managed to survive the assault on the fishing boat from Lanzarote, Manuel was the oldest and least likely to attend public events, and he did not usually participate in the tributes that have been paid since then to the victims of that event.

However, the other two surviving sailors still felt a special bond with him. In fact, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez wanted to convey his condolences and deepest sympathy to the entire family.

Manuel Hernández had seven children, one of whom has already passed away, and eight grandchildren. He had already been widowed by his wife, Guadalupe Martín Delgado.

The funeral chapel is installed in the Mémora de Arrecife Funeral Home and the ceremony will take place this Monday at 12:30 p.m., in the chapel of the same funeral home. Next, his burial will take place in the San Román Cemetery in Arrecife.
