The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Tuesday the Fire Prevention Week 2022. The event took place in the Multipurpose Hall of the Security and Emergency Consortium, where the agenda of the XVII edition of an initiative organized by the Island Council, the Security and Emergency Consortium, the MAPFRE Foundation and the Professional Association of Fire Technicians (APTB) was announced.
Fire Prevention Week will be held from November 28 to December 2 and will feature more than a dozen activities and workshops focused on disseminating and raising awareness among the general population of self-protection knowledge in the field of fires.
The president of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Marcos Bergaz, expressed his gratitude to the MAPFRE Foundation and the APTB for the development of this project on the Island. "In this XVII edition we will focus on sensitizing and raising awareness among the little ones through workshops that will help them acquire preventive habits against fires and become educators in their family environment," he said.
“It is very important to educate children about the danger of fires, share with them the basic notions on how to act in case of being in this situation and provide them with the tools so that their homes or educational centers are safe places thanks to these workshops and trainings”, explained Bergaz.
The week's program kicked off this Monday with a visit from CEIP César Manrique Cabrera and Nieves Toledo to the Central Fire Station of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium. Likewise, a Training in “Accident Prevention and First Aid” was given to the teaching staff of the C.E.I.P César Manrique Cabrera.
This Tuesday, after the official presentation of the initiative, the Casita de Humo school visit of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera took place. On the other hand, the CEIP La Garita de Arrieta and the IES Haría hosted the Fire Evacuation Simulation Exercise. To end the day, the coordination table of those involved in fires will be held (aimed at State Security Forces and Local Police).
From Wednesday to Friday, visits from CEIP La Garita, CEIP Virgen de los Volcanes and CEIP Playa Blanca to the Central Fire Station will be completed, and IES César Manrique and the Las Cabreras Day Center for the elderly will host a Fire Evacuation Simulation Exercise.
Free smoke detectors for people over 65 years of age
On the other hand, within the framework of the celebration of Fire Prevention Week, the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium will continue the campaign to install free smoke detectors for people over 65 years of age.
Bergaz highlighted that the Consortium plans to carry out the free installation of smoke detectors for the first 50 requests for elderly relatives and recalled that the procedure must be carried out through the entity's website, at this link.
