Lanzarote, forced to send coronavirus tests to Gran Canaria due to lack of material on the island

The coronavirus tests that are being carried out in Lanzarote have been sent for days to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. And, according to health sources, the island has run out of the laboratory material necessary to carry out the first diagnostic test.

"We are working with absolute normality," the president of the Cabildo has assured in any case, who has stated that diagnostic tests continue to be carried out on residents of Lanzarote "according to the criteria of the Health Department", only that for "more than five days" they have been sent to Gran Canaria for the results.

In addition, the president of the Cabildo has already stated that the new tests have already been ordered, which will be "much faster". "The material will be provided," said María Dolores Corujo, who pointed out that, to this end, the Management of the Molina Orosa Hospital and the management of the Lanzarote Health Area are coordinating with the Government of the Canary Islands.

"We have to be aware that we have to be prepared, that these are going to be complicated weeks," Corujo indicated. And, although until this Sunday there were nine positive cases on the island and only two of those infected have needed hospitalization, the president of the Cabildo has no doubt that "in Lanzarote there will be a rebound" and that, with the new tests, "more positives will jump".

"And it is important that our hospital does not collapse and that our doctors and professionals can work with all the guarantees," added the president of the Cabildo, who insisted on the importance of citizens staying at home to stop the spread of the coronavirus.  "We are going to get out of this situation, let no one have any doubt, but we have to be responsible," she concluded.
