The AMPA César Manrique of CEIP César Manrique Cabrera in Tahíche and families from different municipalities of Lanzarote have demanded from the Cabildo an urgent solution to the lack of transport that prevents students from enclave classrooms in schools and institutes from starting their swimming pool activities. As they report, the necessary island aid to finance the buses "remains pending approval as the school year progresses and weeks of inactivity accumulate".
The families have pointed out that this situation affects most of the enclave classrooms on the island and question that a known need, which recurs every year, is still unresolved with the school year underway. Therefore, they ask for the processing of the aid to be expedited and for a date to be set for the start of the trips.
"It is known that these activities take place every school year and that buses are needed to get there. It cannot be that every year we have to fight the same battle. Weeks go by and our children pay the consequences," they denounce.
From the AMPA, they have underlined the importance of these activities for the well-being, regulation, and development of the students. They explain that the swimming pool is part of their routines and that its continuity is especially important for the children and young people who participate in them.
"For our children, the swimming pool is much more than a trip out of school. It helps them to regulate themselves, to feel better, and to enjoy an activity they need. While waiting for the approval of aid, they continue to lose weeks. No one will give them back that time," they lament.
To the consequences for the students is added the wear and tear on families, who are forced to repeatedly claim the same resources and to justify, year after year, needs that the administrations already know.
"It is exhausting to ask, insist, and explain again why these supports are necessary. Behind every pending procedure there is a child or a young person who is left without their activity and a family that once again feels that their needs can wait indefinitely," they express.
The AMPA César Manrique and the families have demanded that the Cabildo expedite the approval of the pending aid and that the administrations involved guarantee transport as soon as possible. They also demand stable planning that allows for the availability of buses from the start of activities in the coming school years.
"We want to know when they are going to start. We need a response that translates into buses and activities underway. Our children have needs that do not stop while a file is being resolved," they have stated.
The families have insisted that public commitments to inclusion must be reflected in decisions and resources that guarantee student participation. "Inclusion is also demonstrated by organizing a bus on time. Our sons and daughters have the right to have plans made thinking about their needs. We cannot keep starting each school year from scratch," they have concluded.
