The Ministry of the Interior of the Government of Spain re-installed several tents this Friday to shelter the migrants who have arrived in Lanzarote during the early morning. This decision was made after the Temporary Foreigners Reception Center (CATE), located next to the National Police station in Arrecife, was completely full, with 290 people, after the arrival of 379 migrants in the last 24 hours.
As La Voz has learned, the Puerto Naos tents have been dismantled shortly after being erected due to the extreme heat wave hitting the island, which is under a yellow warning for high temperatures.
For the moment, 290 people are waiting in this space to leave on the planes chartered by the Ministry of the Interior to Gran Canaria or Tenerife. Three transfers are scheduled for late this Friday and another three for the weekend. Therefore, there will be people who spend the 48 hours of police custody in this center.
The rescue of four inflatable boats this Friday, added to the four that were intercepted during Thursday, has been the reason why the Ministry of the Interior has had to opt again to install a temporary camp in Puerto Naos. Just over a week ago, two women, a four-year-old child and a baby slept on this same dock, along with fifty people.
