The Movement for Dignified Housing in Lanzarote calls all citizens this Tuesday, at 7:30 PM, in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park in Arrecife. The objective is to transform the participation, experiences, and links generated during the protest into coordinated lines of work that give continuity to the defense of the right to housing.
This Monday, October 12, the movement's groups carried out an intense workday to prepare for this transition. This afternoon's call seeks to accompany that effort, share the work being developed, and facilitate the incorporation of those who wish to contribute their knowledge, proposals, or time to the new stage.
The meeting will include the collective collection of tents, with which the continuous presence in the park will end. This change does not mean the end of the mobilization: the assembly proposes to continue citizen involvement through the activity of the groups and the coordination of their initiatives.
Since the first gatherings, more than a week ago, José Ramírez Cerdá Park, the nerve center of Arrecife, has been a place for meeting and mutual support. The movement wants this experience to continue beyond physical presence in the space and translate into collective action capacity.
The working groups will continue to prepare initiatives and the assembly will remain a space for collective thought. The movement plans to maintain José Ramírez Cerdá Park as a space for information and communication between the groups, as well as to request support for each group's autonomous initiatives. Coordination is planned from this autonomy and mutual support.
The assembly expresses its solidarity with the mobilizations for the right to housing on the other islands and calls for sharing experiences, gaining support, and developing common lines of work. With respect for the autonomy of each collective, the movement proposes to strengthen collaboration between islands to build a shared citizen response to the difficulties of accessing dignified housing in the Canary Islands.
The call is open to both those who have sustained the protest and those who wish to join for the first time. It is not necessary to have participated before: the movement invites people to get to know the groups, share concerns, and explore how to collaborate based on each person's possibilities.
Access to decent and affordable housing will remain at the center of the demands. The assembly demands responses from the administrations that allow people to live with stability, develop life projects, and maintain roots in Lanzarote. Democratic participation and the peaceful nature of the mobilization will continue to guide its activity.
The movement thanks those who have dedicated time and resources to sustain the protest, as well as the neighborhood, businesses, and individuals and groups who have accompanied it. The call will also allow for the recognition of this shared effort and the addition of new support.
The meeting is this Tuesday, October 13, at 7:30 PM, in José Ramírez Cerdá Park in Arrecife. The assembly calls for accompanying the collection of tents and participating in this transformation: converting the strength of citizen encounters into coordinated work to continue defending decent housing in Lanzarote.
