The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has informed the population that it does not have active any campaign to request the renewal of the Individual Health Card (TSI) through short message services.
The General Directorate of External Relations and Inspection, through the TSI Processing Units, has detected an increase in inquiries from Primary Care health centers due to the reception of fraudulent SMS messages in which users are informed that “their health card must be renewed before March 2026 in accordance with the new regulations” and they are urged to request a “new card” through a shortened link.
These messages are part of a national 'smishing' campaign in which the image of the Sistema Nacional de Salud is impersonated, with the aim of directing citizens to fake websites to collect personal and, where appropriate, banking data, hence the Instituto Nacional de Ciberseguridad (INCIBE) has already warned of this type of fraud related to the health card.
The Department of Health reminds the public that the Canarian Health Service does not request the renewal nor the update of the Individual Health Card via SMS nor through shortened links, and that banking details will never be requested for this procedure, therefore it asks not to respond to these messages.
