The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands reports this week two new outbreaks in Lanzarote. In addition, in the Archipelago as a whole, 120 new outbreaks with 541 cases are counted, which are distributed by islands as follows: 66 in Gran Canaria, 39 in Tenerife, seven in Fuerteventura, three in La Gomera, three in El Hierro and the two in Lanzarote.
By area in which they have occurred, 42 are social, 36 family, 18 work-related, 13 educational, five sports-related, four health-related, one in a socially vulnerable group and one in a student residence.
The most numerous outbreaks, which exceed 10 cases, are four: one reported among socially vulnerable groups in Tenerife with 19 affected, one work-related with 14 infected in a restaurant in Fuerteventura, one health-related reported in the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (Tenerife), with 12 infected among patients and workers, and one family-related in Gran Canaria affecting 10 people. This week, in general, most outbreaks have between 3 and 7 cases.
Of the social outbreaks, the most numerous are one produced in a nightlife venue in Gran Canaria with eight associated cases and one reported, also in Gran Canaria, on a cruise with two passengers and four infected crew members.
The family outbreaks, all reported among families from different addresses, range between three and seven associated cases, except for the aforementioned 10 positives in Gran Canaria.
Also, the work-related outbreaks have between three and six associated cases, except for the aforementioned one produced in a restaurant in Fuerteventura with 14 positives.
The 13 educational outbreaks range between 3 and 6 cases, except for two in Gran Canaria with nine and seven positives. The rest of the educational outbreaks are distributed by islands as follows: five in Gran Canaria, five in Tenerife and one in La Gomera.
Regarding the sports outbreaks, one, with work-related ramifications, has been reported in Tenerife and has three cases, another linked to water polo has six people affected in Gran Canaria, one in Tenerife with six positives associated with volleyball, one in Gran Canaria with six cases in a football team and another in Tenerife with three people affected also linked to football.
The four health outbreaks have been reported in the HUC, already mentioned above, with 12 infected, in Quirónsalud de Costa Adeje with six workers, in the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Insular-Materno Infantil, in Gran Canaria, with three cases and in Hospiten Sur, in Tenerife, with three infected workers.
The outbreak reported in a student residence in Gran Canaria affects seven people.
Monitoring is also continuing on 12 old outbreaks, among which, due to being among the most numerous, one associated with a nightlife venue in Tenerife reported two weeks ago which already affects 336 people with cases on other islands; another social one also reported in a nightlife venue in Tenerife which already has 89 people affected, one social one reported in a nightlife venue in El Hierro with 21 cases and one social-health one in Gran Canaria which already has 30 infected people.
