Health activates the protocol for a possible case of Ebola in Tenerife

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced that the hospital admission protocol has been activated to study a possible case of Ebola in Tenerife. It is a man who recently traveled from Sierra Leone, from where he left on the 8th to arrive in Tenerife on the 12th. This Thursday he reported that he had a fever (37.7 degrees).

The Canary Emergency Service (SUC) has been activated to proceed with the transfer of the patient from his home to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital in Tenerife, where he is isolated. After his hospital admission, the patient is undergoing the necessary tests, which will be sent to the Carlos III Health Institute in Madrid. Results are expected within 24 hours of receipt of the sample.

"The health priority at this time is to find out the reason for the fever and proceed, if necessary, with the clinical treatment of the patient, as well as the safety of the professionals who care for him," they said from the Ministry of Health through a statement.

From this department they wanted to emphasize that hospitals and professionals in the Canary Islands "are prepared to deal with this type of situation", so they have launched a "message of calm to the population and confidence in the Canary health system."
