The sound of crying seeped into an urban planning skeleton in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, in the early hours of Tuesday. "What's wrong?" sobbed a minor in pajamas from inside one of the unfinished houses that serve as a refuge for around fourteen families, while wiping away tears with her pajama shirt. Workers from the company Lanzaokupa, as can be seen on the jackets worn by the workers and confirmed by witnesses to La Voz, had appeared at the site during the night, while recording and arguing with several residents in the unfinished Camelot complex.
According to the complaints filed with the Civil Guard by the residents and the testimony of a witness, four workers from the eviction company appeared at this unfinished complex at approximately 00:30 hours on Monday night into Tuesday morning and allegedly robbed and threatened the residents to leave the premises.
A neighbor from another complex, who worked as a security manager in this phase of unfinished Camelot homes until the end of September, stated before the Civil Guard that the four men began to wander around the unfinished homes during the early morning hours and that they broke objects belonging to their occupants.
From his house, he could see personal belongings thrown outside and three workers "entering, breaking things, and removing belongings" from the occupied homes, while a fourth employee waited outside. According to this neighbor's account, when they arrived at one of the properties where more people were living, an altercation broke out.
One of the affected neighbors stated before the Civil Guard that the workers of the eviction company accessed the home in which they had been residing for a few weeks and allegedly stole 1,900 euros in cash.
According to her testimony, the workers allegedly presented themselves as law enforcement officers, threatened her underage daughter: "Get out of there if you don't want something to happen to you," and shoved her husband. At the same time, in a video accessed by La Voz, one can hear one of the workers from this eviction company telling the neighbors: "Let's get on the sidewalk."
The following morning, October 14, several neighbors went to the Civil Guard headquarters to report the workers of this eviction company, accusing them of carrying out robberies with force and threatening them.
Sources from the Civil Guard have confirmed to this outlet that several residents have filed complaints and that the company went to the area to "mediate," but that "at no time have they formed a device" for eviction.
Another concrete skeleton in Playa Blanca
These villas are part of an unfinished promotional phase of Villas Camelot, a construction framed within the Playa Blanca Partial Plan and located between Malvasía and Laurel streets. While some homes were completed and are used as vacation rentals, others remained as skeletons until now. Therefore, the homes have different owners.
These properties are located one street away from the skeleton evicted in January 2024 by the Justice system, whose decision was later revoked by the Provincial Court, and which ended up leaving a hundred people and around 24 minors homeless.
