The first edition of Equinox ended on Friday night at the emblematic Mirador del Río, with an event that brought together organizers, experts and the public in an unparalleled setting. The event, which for two days has brought together specialists from different disciplines to reflect on the relationship between light and society, closed with a full house and a unique experience of star gazing by Playmodes.
The closing ceremony was attended by Paula and Cristina Martínez Abad, founding partners of Maraba Studio and organizers of the event, who thanked the sponsors, speakers and attendees for their support. They did so before more than a hundred people who did not stop praising the event and celebrating the courage to bet on something so unique and necessary at the same time.
Then they gave way to Ignacio Valero, an eminence in the field of lighting design and a key figure in the event, who proceeded to read the Declaration of Intent. This document summarizes the main conclusions of the meeting and opens the debate for the next edition. It advocates for an intelligent use of natural light and a responsible and conscious use of artificial light, after having analyzed its benefits, risks and impacts in different areas.
“With this declaration we want to invite everyone to rethink our relationship with light: how we use it, how we respect it and how we can live with it in a more sustainable way,” said Paula and Cristina Martínez Abad. “Equinox is not just an event, we want it to be the beginning of a journey in which we can build a culture of sensible, sustainable and healthy relationship with light, which allows users better choices and more informed demands.”
Throughout the two days, Equinox brought together national and international speakers who addressed from multiple perspectives the challenges and opportunities posed by light management. The meeting managed to fill its capacity, thus consolidating the interest and the need to open spaces for dialogue on this topic.
The closing at the Mirador del Río became an unrepeatable experience: under the starry sky of the island, the attendees experienced an immersive session of astronomical observation with an artistic and sensory approach, by Playmodes, which many described as one of the most exciting experiences of the event; something unprecedented on the island.
With this first edition, Equinox successfully closes its starting point and lays the foundations to become an international benchmark meeting on light, art and sustainability.
