Former President of the Cabildo, Enrique Pérez Parrilla

Enrique Pérez Parrilla, who was president of the Cabildo for more than a decade, has passed away this Saturday, after suffering several health complications in recent years, including cancer that was diagnosed shortly before the start of the pandemic.

The historical member of the PSOE was in charge of the Island Corporation on three occasions since 1983, and in his last stage in active politics he was mayor of Arrecife, between 2007 and 2009. In addition, he was a mathematics teacher, an activity to which he returned in the periods in which he did not hold public office.

Parrilla, who among other things promoted the tourist moratorium in Lanzarote under his government in the Cabildo, was currently 73 years old.

His wife, Nieves Rosa Hernández, is the president of Mararía and in her day was also an active member of the PSOE, having been a regional deputy.
