Firefighters from the Consorcio de Seguridad y Emergencias de Lanzarote y La Graciosa had to intervene on the afternoon of this past Sunday after being alerted that a person was expressing suicidal thoughts in a home in Caleta de Sebo, on the eighth island.

As reported by the Consorcio de Seguridad y Emergencias, the firefighters were activated by the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) to intervene in a home in Caleta de Sebo. The personnel prepared sufficient material to open the home, while they contacted the alerting doctor from the La Graciosa Primary Care Center by phone. The healthcare professional informed them that the affected person might have gone towards the area of El Salado beach.

Following this change of route, the crew headed to this beach, where they contacted the medical services dispatched to the scene. Subsequently, the medical personnel informed the firefighters that they could not locate the affected person and reported that they might be back at their home.

The crew returned to the home but received no response from inside. During the exterior inspection, a tilt-and-turn window was observed, which was partially open. Given the need to facilitate access for medical services and after assessing the situation, the firefighters opened the home through the window.

Once inside, they located the affected person lying on a bed, unresponsive to calls made from outside. They proceeded to open the main door to allow access for medical personnel. Medical services performed an initial assessment of the patient, with firefighters assisting in the care and subsequent transfer to the Emergency Department of the La Graciosa Medical Clinic.
