El Reducto beach remains closed to swimming this Monday, as reported by the Emergency Consortium. As you may recall, the Arrecife City Council's Department of Beaches raised the red flag last Friday, January 24, as a preventive measure after Public Health of the Canary Islands Government requested it.
The Consistory explained that there is an underwater emissary in the area that is under the responsibility of the "Consortium and Canal Gestión". The water samples were collected last week after the rains caused by the Garoé storm that overflowed the city's sewage system.
In addition, in the statement issued by the City Council, Arrecife pointed out that the responsibility lies with Canal Gestión Lanzarote, the body that has been assigned the powers to maintain the sewage system of the capital, as well as other municipalities in Lanzarote.
