The Board of Directors of the Lanzarote External Promotion Society (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), meeting this Thursday, has awarded the 'Isla de Lanzarote' and 'Distinguished Tourism Professionals' Awards corresponding to the 2026 edition.
The jury has unanimously granted the Isla de Lanzarote Award, the highest award given by the island council, to Bienvenido Saavedra Ramón, a historic professional in the tourism sector of Puerto del Carmen and former general director of the Fariones Group, in recognition of a career built on personal effort and more than five decades of dedication to the hotel development of Lanzarote.
Regarding the Distinguished Tourism Professionals Awards 2026, the jury has decided to grant the recognition, in the Company category, to the Girasol and Enriqueta guesthouses, in La Graciosa, for their pioneering role in the birth of the accommodation infrastructure of Caleta de Sebo.
In the category of Event, Cultural and/or Sporting Manifestation, the award has gone to the Club Balonmano Zonzamas, for its contribution to the external projection of Lanzarote through women's sports.
These distinctions are awarded annually by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa on the occasion of the celebration of World Tourism Day to recognize the careers and contributions of individuals, companies, entities, and initiatives that have contributed to the development and tourism positioning of the Island.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulates all the individuals, companies, and entities distinguished in this edition, highlighting that "each of them has played and continues to play a fundamental role in the evolution of Lanzarote as a tourist destination. They are an example of the effort, professionalism, and commitment that have allowed us to consolidate a tourism model recognized both within and outside our borders. We feel deeply proud of the entire island tourism sector and, with these awards, we want to publicly recognize the contribution of those who, from different fields, have helped to build the Lanzarote we know today."
